As part of the new ‘City of Onkaparinga‘ website, they have just announced that they are now cancelling the bin collection calendar delivery services to residential homes. They will be delivering a limited number of calendars to a number of post offices, libraries and community centres, as well as having them available at the council office itself.
The council now offer an app that you can download to receive notifications regarding your bin collection.
I personally, think this is quite a good move. However, the council have also recognised that this won’t suit everyone so there are other options available for those who don’t want to download the app.
You can now go to their website and enter your street address to find out when your next bin collection is due.
Or for those of you who are not so tech savvy, you can always pop in to one of the allocated calendar pick-up locations and grab your copy. However, you will need to be quick. The calendars will be printed later this month but their will only be a limited number of them available. All council offices, centres and libraries will have a copy of the calendar as well as the following post offices: Clarendon, Kangarilla, McLaren Flat, McLaren Vale and Sellicks Beach.
Another option is that you can download and print a copy of the calendar straight from their website.
The purpose of this change is to reduce paper usage and costs. I think with this in mind, the council have done quite well to achieve their goal while considering both older and younger generations. I am sure there will be some people who will not find the change suitable to their situation and perhaps this is where family and friends could take the opportunity to offer their assistance to those who may need help obtaining a copy.
