Last week, we received the devastating news of the passing of our good friend and colleague, Graeme Walker.
We have been hesitant to make this announcement as it makes it all a little too real. We keep expecting to see Graeme’s cheery face walk in to the office in the morning.
As we try to come to terms with the shock of his passing, we remember all the reasons why he was so loved. Graeme was a character in the office, who is already missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Graeme was always the first to start off the singing when we sang Happy Birthday. And it was well known that he didn’t like vegetables in his cake. If anyone brought in a carrot cake, we always made sure we ordered a separate slice of something veggie free for Graeme, with his cake of choice being a B-Sting.
Graeme was also “da debt collector” when it came to our weekly lottery ticket purchase. Graeme would do the rounds and take responsibility for managing our internal gambling affairs. Sarah Cullen even made a hat for Graeme, which is currently hanging proud in his office.
We will miss his cheeky comments at lunch time, teasing some of the girls for eating “weeds” or “rabbit food”, his advice was to eat fat food and if you were sick he would suggest a shot of whiskey to kill the germs. Graeme would regularly torture us all with the smell of his delicious lunch, which was either fish and chips or something delicious made by his wife Marlene.
Graeme loved his wife and family and spoke so proudly of them all. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and extended friendship groups. Rest in Peace Graeme.
For those who would like to pay their respects to Graeme, there will be a celebration of his life at his beloved Novar Gardens Bowling Club (489 Anzac Highway, Novar Gardens) on Saturday 7th May 2022 between 4pm – 6pm.
