“Responding to themes of displacement, memory, and time, I used the act of walking to reflect on new landscapes while contemplating my birth hometown of Dainkundi. Realised in painting, drawing and video, each work is underscored by my experience as an Afghan-born Hazara now living in Tarntanya (Adelaide).
In this body of work, there are many references to both ocean and mountain. Mountain refers to my hometown of Daikundi and ocean refers to my new home, Tarntanya. Although these two elements are far away from each other, the sun is the messenger between them. Here I talk to the sun every sunset and ask it to pass on my messages, stories, sorrows and dreams to those distant mountains.”
