In the real estate world we have the privileged of seeing some really interesting decor and design ideas. From functional ideas to the latest decorating trends. Here we have compiled a short list of trends we believe we will be seeing more of in 2019.
Less is more
With society giving more consideration to sustainable living, combined with the latest Kon Mari craze, clutter is out and the minimalist look is in. People are focusing on creating a space that is simple, calm and evokes positive feelings as well as trying to reduce their ecological footprint.
Living with Technology
You can try to fight it but the fact is, technology is always creeping into our homes. Devices are now normal house hold items, and people are coming up with clever ways to decorate around them. Many people are creating hubs to conceal their electronics, while others are creating easily accessed charging stations. However you wish to tackle it, the reality is that we’ll be seeing more and more if it.
Quirky up-cycled items
This ties in with society being more conscious about sustainable living. These quirky but fun items are becoming more popular and create a good conversational piece for guests. From animals made out of old bits of metal to tins being used to make clocks, they are starting to pop up more often.
Bringing the outdoors in (better)
For a long time now, we have been loving the idea of bringing the outdoors in but I think we are getting a lot better at it. Instead of just having a living area that flows out to an outdoor entertaining area, we now have made the transition more seamless. We’re seeing more closed in verandah’s, more indoor plants, more thoughtful planning to where plants are positioned in and around verandah’s and large windows with a view of the garden. You can walk into some living areas and for a moment wonder, which is the window and which is the sliding door or where does the outdoor entertaining area begin.
Natural materials
The use of natural materials such as stone, glass and timber has been around forever, it is timeless and practical. However, in recent times, architects and designers are finding more beautiful ways of using the materials. I can’t see natural materials going out of style anytime soon.
Art Deco
This is a style I have started to see subtly pop up. It is mainly being displayed in decorative items such as a mirror or a rug. It seems to have crept its way back in without people even noticing. Art deco blends very nicely with modern decor; it adds a bit of interest and flair so it is easily disguised. Keep an eye out for this style.
