Road closure

Flaxmill Road bridge closure

Christies Beach Blog | Latest News | Local News | What's On 4th July, 2013 No Comments

Flaxmill Road bridge at Christies Downs will be temporarily closed from 13 July until early 2014 as part of the staged bridge works for the $407.5 million Southern Expressway Duplication project.

The closure enables major earthworks and the bridge extension to be undertaken safely and efficiently. This latest stage of the expressway project follows the reopening last month of the Elizabeth Road Bridge.

Work on the Flaxmill Road bridge will generally be undertaken from Monday to Saturday between 6.00 am and 7.00 pm, weather permitting.

Throughout the closure, vehicles will be detoured via:

  • Morton Road, Elizabeth Road and Beach Road
  • Brodie Road, O’Sullivan Beach Road, and Dyson Road

Pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained on Flaxmill Road until the reopening of Glenhelen Path (expected at the end of July 2013). When Glenhelen Path reopens, pedestrians and cyclists will be detoured via this path and also over Elizabeth Road.

Local residents, business owners and workers are reminded to be mindful of the increase in the number of construction vehicles and equipment moving through the area.

The $407.5 million duplication of the Southern Expressway is a key part of the development of Adelaide’s north-south corridor and, when complete, will deliver an 18.5 kilometre multi-lane, two-way expressway between Bedford Park and Old Noarlunga by mid-2014.

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) thanks road users for their patience.
